Introduction to Fused Zirconia Alumina (AZS)

1. Definition of Fused Zirconia Alumina
   Fused zirconia alumina is a white solid formed by melting pure alumina powder and zircon sand (containing approximately 65% zirconia and 34% silica) in an electric furnace, followed by cooling in molds. Its petrographic structure consists of a eutectoid of corundum and zirconite, along with a glass phase. From a phase perspective, it is a eutectoid of corundum and zirconite phases, with the glass phase filling the spaces between their crystals.

2. Properties of Fused Zirconia Alumina

1. It has a load refractory temperature of 1850°C.

2. Its hardness is close to that of diamond (diamond has a Mohs hardness of 10, while zirconia alumina has a Mohs hardness of 9).

3. The zirconia crystals are bead-like, providing strong resistance to erosion by molten glass at high temperatures.

4. Due to its inherent purity, it does not contaminate products, making it an essential refractory material for glass and glass product melting tanks. With the continuous development of China's glass industry, the demand for this material is expected to grow significantly.

3. Applications of Fused Zirconia Alumina
   Practice has shown that AZS products exhibit excellent operational performance at temperatures limited to below 1500°C, which is suitable for most current glass furnaces. However, with advancements in science and continuous improvements in fused cast refractory technology, there is a growing demand for developing new refractory materials that are more resistant to high temperatures and erosion. Significant research efforts are underway in this area. Given the properties of zirconia alumina and the progress in science and technology, this product still holds considerable potential for further development. Refractory materials are essential foundational materials for high-temperature industrial kilns used in casting, metallurgy, building materials, light industry, and chemical engineering.
